Three years after departing the Texas retail electricity market, the executive team behind the success of two upstart retail electric providers is back with their new brand, Value Power, offering low-cost, fixed-rate plans for residential and commercial customers in the state’s ERCOT regions.
Neville Ravji and Mohsin Hassan, co-founders of Tara Energy and later founders of Discount Power, have returned to the state’s retail electricity market as Value Power’s chief executive officer and chief operating officer, respectively.
“We’ve basically been electricity shoppers for the past three years,” quipped Ravji, who first met Hassan 24 years ago while working at Enron. “The time we spent combing websites, sifting through so-called special offers and coping with high renewal rates convinced us the market was missing what we provided in the past – a customer-oriented brand focused on value pricing coupled with great customer services. That is what Value Power is all about.”
Hassan says the new company’s formula is simple -- offer fair and transparent pricing, present renewal rates as good as the ones new customers pay, and provide outstanding customer service.
“That was the promise of deregulation when it was introduced to the market back in 2002,” he adds. “Some companies just lost their way.”
Their previous ventures won multiple customer service awards and served more than a half million customers with the industry’s highest customer retention levels, Hassan notes.
“The aftermath of Winter Storm Uri left customers throughout the ERCOT market without a true value provider,” he adds. “That’s essentially the niche we occupied with our previous companies and are looking to occupy once again.”
Value Power offers low, fixed rates for both regular and green electricity for residential and commercial customers throughout the ERCOT market.
